All colour treatments require a skin allergy test at least 48 hours before the treatment. This is a very simple, quick procedure but must be carried out before colouring for your safety. We can normally fit this in at any time to suit you but please call to arrange before your appointment.

Service & Booking Policies

New guests booking colour services will need to come in to the salon for a complimentary colour consultation and allergy test before booking an appointment. This also applies to existing guests who haven’t seen us in over 6 months.

All Colour services & treatments must be booked with either a Haircut, Blow Dry or Quick Dry to ensure your satisfaction with the result of your service. We don’t allow guests to leave the salon with wet hair.

Extra charges will be incurred for very thick or long hair. A curly blowdry or curling with tongs or straighteners will also incur an extra charge.

You will need a credit or debit card to secure your booking either online, by phone or in-salon. We ask for a minimum of 24 hours notice for cancelling or moving an appointment or the booking total may be charged in full.

Allergy testing

When booking colour services, you will need to come into the salon for an allergy test - this is mandatory. If you do not wish to go ahead with the test, then we will not be able to carry out the colour service. You will need a skin test if:

- You haven’t had a colour appointment with us before or within the last 6 months.

- You have used home colour or box dyes since your last appointment.

CANCELLATION POLICY

If you cannot make an appointment give us at least 24 hours notice if possible so we can offer the appointment to someone else. The most frustrating issue for us is when clients make an appointment and do not turn up especially at peak times. This is not fair on the stylist as it results in loss of revenue for them and the salon. We understand that we all have busy lives and can forget things but please let us know in advance if you cannot make an appointment. Due to this we now require a 50% deposit from new clients when booking in for a high value service.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need to have a skin test before a colour service?

This is to determine whether you are likely to have an allergic reaction and must be done at least 48 hours before your appointment.

Am I likely to get an allergic reaction to Kevin Murphy color.me when I have had my hair coloured numerous times and used home hair dye?

Even though Kevin Murphy color.me is less likely than other brands to cause a reaction due to the fact that it does not contain ammonia or PPD’s it is still possible for person to react to the ingredients contained in it. Therefore, it is necessary for every client for a colour service to have a skin test.

How long will my colour process take?

Because Kevin Murphy is ammonia free, it lifts hair using a more natural process without heat. Typically, a root colour takes up to 45 minutes, and highlift can take up to 55 minutes. With other brands this isn’t normally the case and heat processors can be used to quicken up the application therefore causing damage to the hair leaving it dry and brittle.

How quickly will my colour fade?

This depends on how often you wash your hair and what shampoo and conditioner you use. If you use a shampoo that contains sulphates, then your colour will fade much quicker than if you use a shampoo with as many natural ingredients as possible and is sulphate and paraben free. Toners on blonde hair can last up to approximately 6 weeks with good aftercare. Sunlight can also affect the longevity of your colour causing it to fade.

Why can you not give me an exact colour price over the phone?

If you are a new client, we can give you an estimate over the phone. When you come in for a skin test we can give you a more accurate price. With regular clients this is not the case as we will be aware from previous visits. Every colour process is individual so we need to see your hair prior to any colour service.

Do I need to wash my hair prior to a colour service?

Normally you do not need to wash your hair but, if you use a root cover up or spray/powder this may interfere with penetration of colour. In this case it is advisable to wash the product out before you come to the salon.

I am on medication will this affect my colour application?

Some medication can affect colour processing causing a chemical reaction within the hair shaft, so it is vital to take this into consideration when booking an appointment.

Do we take card payments?

Yes, it is your choice as we take cash and card. Currently we take contactless payments up to £100.

Are you wheelchair accessible?

Yes.

Can I use my laptop and phone in the salon?

Yes, you are welcome to use your phone or laptop. We provide free Wi-Fi, so it is even possible to carry on with your work while you are with us.
